The Art and Science of Human Touch

The practice of Biodanza involves the art and science of human touch. The skin is the largest organ in the human body and the only one directly accessible to touch. And, it is like a giant cat! It loves to be stroked! In Biodanza, the skin gets lots and lots of this yummy medicine.

Everyone has heard of adrenaline, right? But how many people know of acetyl choline? Not nearly as many. But, it is the inverse of adrenaline. When adrenaline goes up, acetyl choline goes down, and vice versa, but because we live in an adrenergic culture, we don’t know so much about relaxation anymore.  Acetyl choline is the neurotransmitter responsible for relaxation and rest, for entering into deep states of blissful abandon where cellular repair and detoxification best take place.

It is also a useful state for the release of emotional tension that cannot be fully tapped in more adrenergic states of being. Being stroked from head to toe on as much skin as you are willing to expose will leave you feeling a deep peace and contentment radiating from every cell. Mmmmmmmmm!
