How did it develop?

In 1960′s Chile, Professor Rolando Toro Araneda, a psychologist, medical anthropologist, poet and artist began experimenting with the effects of music on mental patients. He was motivated by an impulse to humanise the rather barbaric methods employed in medicine there at that time.

Rolando ToroBuilding on his work, he produced a cadre of Biodanza teachers that spread throughout south America and subsequently to Europe. There are now hundreds of exercises and thousands of pieces of music to go with them that makes Biodanza a highly refined, precise and specific tool for emotional stimulation and expression.
